Writers at Work: Jamie Marina Lau on Experiment and Play (Part 2)

The Writers at Work series invites writers to consider: What kinds of labour are entailed in literary production and publication? What does it mean to describe oneself, or be described, as a writer? Who does a writer work for and what processes produce the literary work as we encounter it?

Join us for a conversation between author and multidisciplinary artist Jamie Marina Lau and Belinda Castles from the Department of English. Jamie will elaborate on the themes of her work and its experimentation across different forms and collaborations.

“Lau’s dizzying prose is like a series of crazy neon-lit performance art.”
– The Stella Prize Judges on Pink Mountain on Locust Island

Jamie Marina Lau is a writer, multidisciplinary artist and the author of Pink Mountain on Locust Island and Gunk Baby. Her fiction has won and been shortlisted for several major awards including the Stella Prize and ALS Gold Medal. With explorations focusing on experimental uses of language, her work meditates on a landscape exploring dis-location of culture and space.
