Regional Hub: 71st Annual Conference of the international Communication Association

Regional Hub: 71st Annual Conference of the international Communication Association

With the 71st Annual Conference of the international Communication Association being a ‘Virtual’ conference due to the COVID19 pandemic and travel restrictions, the Department of Media and Communications (MECO) at The University of Sydney is one of 12 sites worldwide that are hosting a Regional Hub event, and the only site in Australia for such an event. The event will be from 27-31 May 2021.

ICA Regional Hubs have been pioneered in the Global South, and are intended to provide opportunities for scholars to gather who for various reasons – many of which are not COVID-related – are unable to travel to a physical conference venue.

It will function along the lines of a “watch party”, with 20-25 panels being selected over a four-day period for those attending to watch and discuss. Where appropriate, we will seek to engage speakers from the panel, noting the challenge of time zone differences.

As we will seek the input of registrants for which panels to engage with, as well as to meet catering requirements, we do require people to pre-register. You can engage with the event if not registered for the conference, but will not be able to be a part of the online discussion accompanying the event. You can register here.
